shift kit?

shift kit?
i was talking to one of my friends earlier today and he said something about a shift kit would be good for my auto mustang. can someone give me more insight into what they do? i know they make your shift points harder which is (?) better for the transmission. I appreciate any input.

OK, wherever I screw up on this explanation, Harv will fix it. A shift kit causes your car to rev quicker and shift harder to raise accelleration. It shouldn't mess with your shift points as that is programmed into your ecu and you will need a tuner to redo that. Also, a shift kit should decrease the life of your tranny, by how much, I don't know, because I'm not 100% sure on this one.

shift kit increases tranny life, it increase the psi that the tranny shifts at so it shifts harder and quicker. I personally would just buy a diablo tuner and change the limiters, shift points and preasure along with a bunch of other stuff you can mess around with.

How does increasing psi and shift firmness increase tranny life, because technically that should strain the tranny more when you shift because you're forcing it to shift to the next gear quicker, and harder than it used to?
