snap on is the leading brand in just about every mechanic tool out there. alot of your mechanic shops are going to have snap on in there shop because of those mobile shops (trucks) of theirs that go to those businesses but for the average joe youre gonna settle with craftsman, husky. you are a brave one to be ordering a snap on tool box, what kind is it?
Why am I brave to be ordering a Snap On box if they are good? I'm debating between royal blue or black, and/or the 6 or 7 drawer version of this setup.

I'm also debating a top chest that matches it and I got a Snap roll cart from some family.
edit: There is NO way I would pay that price normally, but they are giving the students at my school a Great deal...

While I do like the Snap-On toolboxes, I doubt I'll ever buy one. Now that Craftsman and Kobalt are making professional boxes with ball bearing drawers, I see no need to spend double the money.
Now I LOVE my Snap-On cart, it's the biggest one you can get and still have a cart. The reason I bought theirs is because it was hands down the best one on the market, and it was only $800 or so.
All of my sockets and wrenches are Snap-on, air tools range from Snap-On to Blupoint and a few Matco. A lot of my "special tools" are Snap-On, merely because no one else makes or offers them. My electric drill is the badass Snap-On, I bought it because when I was building drag diesels and having to drill through frames and stuff, everyone else's failed on me.
Craftsman has severely gone down in quality, and I believe fewer of their tools are being made in the US now. Snap-On is almost ALL US made tools, another big selling point for me.
It all depends on what tool you need and how you use it, I love my Snap-On creeper and roll around chair, and nobody makes one like theirs, but they were $200 each, not worth it unless you use it like I used to.
The main thing for me is that the Snap-On Sockets, wrenches and screwdrivers tend to be able to grip and remove nuts bolts and screws where ALL the other brands would cause damage and round them out or strip them, they just fit better. The other thing I like is the wrench handles, they feel good in my hand.
If you want some nice tools without going broke, Kobalt is actually made by Snap-On and their wrenches are very nice, I also like their jack and stands, and you can get them at Lowe's, which since I no longer work in a shop is easier than finding a Snap-On guy or ordering online.
The other part about the "truck" brands is that they offer sizes that store brands don't. I'm not talking about crazy sizes either, compare a sears and Snap-On catalog for wrenches and sockets and you'll see what I mean.
Hope my little "rant" helps lol

i only say that because of what i see that goes thru my shop.. i work for a pawnshop and i see how expensive those tool boxes are but when it comes time for us to sale those were lucky if we can get a third of the retail for them in excellent condition. yeah the name is expensive but its not something that they warranty like their tools (please correct me if im wrong on that part) hell if the student offer was somewhat under half retail then youre getting one hell of a deal
Those roll carts are awesome and handy. i used them in high school and were more helpful than the person that was suppose to help me..

and like ryan says about kobalt theyre made by snap on, but im still skepticle about them.. its not that easy to sale someone on a brand that isnt well known. but yes i have to agree about those snap on wrenches. they do feel comfortable when im working on my car with them. And for that snap on roll around chair we do have one for store use (not really mechanically) and that little thing goes everywhere.
but like he says (well at least thats how it sounds) depending on how much youre gonna be using it, purchase wisely. lol

for wrenches i generally stick with gearwrenches they are super handy but i also workon big industrial stuff not tight spaces my sockets are channel-lock but their wratches are pos's ive been through too many i stick with craftsman i can find them at the flea market for way cheap new and they will still honor the warranty chicago pneumatic ftw on big impact stuff i use nothing smaller than 1/2 in and generally dont use anything smaller than 3/4 for that though
i will get one of these soon though ive heard good things about them
