Question Need Advice for new rims

i was wanting to get some new rims for my '98 v6 mustang for quite some time, and i was planning on getting 18X9 in the front and 18X10 in the rear. some of my friends said that it can oversteer the car with wider tires and some say it slows you down cause its heavier. i asked some people in my autoshop and they said it has more grip and traction with wider tires. DOES WIDER TIRES HAVE ANY DRAWBACKS?

They're full of it. I run the 18x9/18x10 combo on my car. The downsides are you can't rotate for better wear, the 10" wide combo is heavier and the tires cost more $$.
