Default V6's-Second Rate Citizens

I read excuses made a lot of times for owning a V-6 although most know it's a platform with lots of potential and great fun. Great car to own.
I get the occasional "nice car" comment regularly but today ran into an "old timer" that stopped by the car & gave a lot of really nice compliments first by saying that he had heard the car and had seen it several times in town and wanted to stop and say hello to the guy that owned it. It was the first time someone with huge Mustang knowledge picked up on the fact I've put some time & love into this car and wanted to discuss it.
He's an owner of several 65-67 Shelby's and had some relationship with the editor of Car And Driver many years ago and worked on Jaguars with him speaking very technical references in regards to them as I guess they (Jaguars) raced against Shelbys back in the day. Very knowlegable about all kinds of Mustang models making my brain hurt reciting specifics done to modify or build to original spec conditions.
Anyway, just remember things like that when continuously confronted by ******** trying to impose "V6 put downs". These are fantastic cars to build and play with. I seriously have been completely content with the the look, power, & sound of my 3.8 for a while now. Nice to get a so called "pat on the back" for running a V6 Mustang. Thanks for listening- Robb

i have to agree. I get many complements on my car, mostly from the color (electric green) but alot on how its sounds and how I am proud of it. They are very great cars and I honestly couldnt let mine go. It honestly makes me sick to see on places like youtube and such the comments of "get rid of the girl mustang and buy the gt or cobra. These cars are as u said a great platform. Congrats on your complements.

I like my 4.0 Premium. Very nice car and well built. I can't drive over 70 or 80MPH on the road anyway, so having 300+ horsepower isn't practical. And I don't bring it to the strip. I just spend time making her look nice.

I agree, my friends got a 2010 camaro and said no one says anything about his car anymore. But i'll have people compliment me on my '00 v6 and especially the kids will yell "nice car" or give me a thumbs up. And its only a v6 with a few small mods

I think the thing I like the most is when children stop and oogle and awe over our cars.

It makes me feel good that in some way I may have just helped to spark the passion for Mustangs in someone.

Now as far as Aprils 96' FrankenStang goes, the kids didn't like that one so much. :P
When guys would come up and talk to me about it they seemed all excited or interested and immediately it goes to "Whatcha got on there? 5.OHHH?"

I say no, its a V6.
The joyful and almost gleeus look on their face drains to sorrow, disappointment and even disgust as they realize that the thumping idle they thought was eight was only six.

I shrug it off and rattle off whats done to her and explain that power wise, I have a little more than the average GT (Up till 98 anyways, 99+ destroy me. :P) and that I am lighter and that the reason why the doors are silver and the fenders, hood and bumper are black is because she was stripped, not wrecked.

My wife would sometimes get "LEARN TO DRIVE!" shouted at her but for reasons so I guess they could get away, it was always when she was parked.

One experiance I had was these two A-Hole kids on a stratus. My wife, daughter and I were in the car and we were stopped at a light next to them.

I looked over and they were busting up laughing, pointing mouthing profanities and so forth.

The light turns and we go and they start trying to run us off the road, swerving into our lane and blocking us. April nailed it and blew them away, then she pulled back down to the speed limit and the did the whole ricer drive by thing then brake checked us.

I had enough and reached behind my seat and grabbed the lug wrench, she pulled to the drivers side at the next stop light.

I held it up, eyes wide open locked on them. It took them a second to realize they were about to get beat. They sunk down in their seats and wouldn't look back.

While I wasn't going to do anything more unless they took it further, I got my point across. At the next light it looked like no one was driving, they were so low in their seats as they made the turn to run back home to mommy.

People really disrespect a car that isn't all pretty and new.

Other than that and other experiences I have had in her 96', everything has always been great. In my 95' and 01' I always get looks and people happy to talk to me.

It's great when I hangout with my girls nephew because he can speak only few words clearly but he's obsessed over mustangs. I'll show him pictures of other cars and he'll look at it like "ehhh", then I show him pics of mustangs and his eyes will go big and he'll say "more more!"

I love my car, not is not a GT but oh well, its what I have and Im going to make the most of it. It gives me something to build on, its a cheap DD, and the gas isnt bad. I have had a few guy walk up and talk shop about it but most hear its a 6 and kinda just slink away. Its their loss, my gain as far as I care.

Whoa, thats craazy!

Everytime I race a ricer, I always get either compliments (a sixxer is usually more than enough to roast those guys) or complete vengeful anger. A few months ago (just bought the car) I raced a little ford focus and wasted him, just to see him blow past me at around 100mph, as I was shutting down. The guy shoots thru a red light (was late, no cars) and all I see is this bright flash and I realize (with a growing smile) that there was a traffic camera at the intersection haha!
