Default Top End Power/Torque

So what is it that restricts the v6 from having top end power/torque...especially on the single port... I DD a 98 v6 but I also have my 93 with a few good mods. Obviously the 93 has more power which makes the 98 feel like a slug but the single port looses power after 4kish....

What would help the most to help make power at the higher RPMS???

How much power are you looking for? Id' suggest a tune up first. Should pull strong all the way over 5K. That being said, I hardly ever take mine up that high in the RPM range... especially on the street.

the basics are kept up so a tune up is not needed. If u look at the dyno sheets posted on here the power dies off between 4-5k. Granted the single port only puts down less that 150hp to the wheels....not looking for alot of power from it, just the most effective upgrades...the thing has a cai, coil, and 2.5 inch divorced duals after the cats into flowmasters.... Its got good midrange power and gears would help the lag at bottom end but again what would help the top end with it.....

I do however plan on either (or both) a 4.2 and m90 swap in the future but just tinkering with ideas in my head right now

Do a split port swap with H/C/I it'll run pretty good.

Really? You think?......I'm not looking to spend $3k on a v6. The m90 swap would outrun the h/c/i car in half the price....

Oh do the m90 swap then,
even better find a running supercoupe (I find them around here from as cheap as 1,000$) swap the motors then you have two running vehicles.

So again, what is the biggest choke on the motor? The intake, heads, cam, exhaust? The exhaust is gonna get a complete swap out anyway when I start actually putting money into it but that's beside the point....

I have a stickie on the main page about the M90 thing, personally I think it's a huge pain in the **** for the cost. Would be cheaper and more efficient to do the split port swap and put an M112 on the car.

The single port dies so badly because of the lack of torque and power made after that point in the RPMs. In short the single port just isn't made to be a performance car.

If I ws to gather parts from the junk yard here and get ssm's kit for 350 I could do a split port swap for under $500......

A split port 4.2 would be a decent power for the wife. Especially after some gears are involved but then I would want to port the heads.....i don't like paying someone else to....

Anyone got any info on that?

For $500, you could just buy an entire split port motor and drop it in with less hassle than pulling the heads off.

If I had a single port, I'd be doing a 4.2L M90 set up. Paul (Car2N) put down 374/431 @ the wheels doing that.
