Question Where was my engine manufactured?

I drive a 2003 regular pony 3.8L v6 automatic... I was told my engine was manufactured in the UK. Is this true?? Thanks to anyone who can help..

Lol...NO it was not manufactured in the U.K.

They probably thought that because the motor is code-named 3.8L Essex motor as in Essex U.K. The engine you are referring to was actually built in Canada.

That's what I thought... I have one of those know-it-all friends, and one of my other buddies made a comment about Mustangs being American made. So my know-it-all friend replied with "Dude, that engine was built in the UK.. my Isuzu has more American made parts than that mustang!" and we've kinda been going back and forth about it - he insists he's right. Haha. Whatever.

Seems like he is right in that it wasn't made in America. It was made in Canada. With that said, just because it is a Ford does not mean it was made in America, or even assembled in America. Check your vin # to find out. If it starts with a 1, 4, or 5 then its as made in the US. Otherwise it was made somewhere else.

Technically CANADA is in NORTH AMERICA... so it is American made. Folks in the US tend to get greedy and think we are the only Americans out there.

Yes, your geography is correct. However, when people refer to "Made in America" they are referring to the U.S.A. North America is consists of a bunch of countries, including Canada, Mexico and Greenland. But none of their citizens refer to themselves as Americans. I also know quite a few Canadians & Mexicans and none of them would consider themselves to be Americans, they are very proud to be Canadians or Mexicans. So I don't know how greed, in any form, has anything to do with it.

In relation to VIN numbers, Canada and Mexico have their own designations. If its made in Canada it starts with a 2, if its made in Mexico it starts with a 3. So when the VIN starts with a 1, 4 or 5 it is referring to it being made in the U.S.A. Plane and simple.
