Default new differential

I want to replace my 1999 v6 mustang's 7.5" diff with an 8.8" diff from a GT with the T-lok. so i was offered a used one with about 75000 miles on it, but i'm not sure how to tell by looking at it if its in good condition. the person had bought the car for parts and is selling the ones he doesnt need so its just the diff with the axles connected. what do i look for?

have your 7.5" rebuilt with a detroit true trac and your choice of gears, it will be lighter and stronger and you wont be putting someone elses headache in your car.

My original plan was choosing between rebuilding my 7.5 with 3.73 gears and an lsd or buying a gt diff with the lsd in it... So after much review id rather not go through the headache of rebuilding my shot diff and just replace it at half the cost. So if you could tell me what I should look for instead of trying to redirect that would be wonderful

I'm upgrading my rear axle/diff to a 31 spline this spring. Are you still looking for the axles/lsd from a GT?

No I've found one but as I've said twice and have yet to get an answer... HOW DO I TELL IF IT IS IN GOOD SHAPE WITHOUT ACTUALLY TAKING IT APART???

you dont, you crack the cover and look at what the fluid looks like and check for metal, you can check most of the teeth on the R&P but berings and clutches you wont really know without taking it apart.

75k is plenty long enough to do damage to an 8.8

28 spline axles are the same for a 7.5 or 8.8
