considering duals
I've had my single GT takeoff for about 2 and a half weeks now and can't get enough of the sound. Now I've been thinking about going with duals since I have another muffler wrapped up in the garage. So I have my 2 mufflers, now I need an x-pipe the left hangers and either a GT bumper or to mod my current. Here is my question, what x-pipe do you guys suggest I get? Also am I leaving anything out that I would need to have in order to go duals? I have ran across Haney's Complete V6/GT Dual exhaust conversion kit down at the bottom of the page. I know this comes with everything I need to go dual (not sure if the bumper will have a factory paint job on it or not since it's a new factory part) including more mufflers. Anyone heard the Mac dual kit? I figure its not a bad price for a full dual kit and GT bumper, i did however see that it comes with a Y, is that not gonna turn my sound really high pitched? Anyways just looking for some advice from some of you guys that have gone to duals and see what ya'll think. Thanks in advance
Fear, 1st off since you already have GT take off muflers why not use them? 2nd the system you linked to, well thats the first time I have ever heard of them and with all of the exhaust threads I have looked at (I lost count) you'd think that if the system was any good someone else would have tried it, but who knows. Tomorrow I am getting my H-pipe and intermediate pipe made and installed for $200. I shoped around town to see who had the cheapest price and also took into account what the shop looked like, dirty and clutered is usually bad, I also asked if they had done an 05-06 Mustang before and asked for pictures. Anyway every place I went was under $300. Materials and labor, hell its about 10ft of pipe and two cuts with a torch and two welds......4 bolts on the hangers. I'd do it myself if I could weld!!!! Changing the rear bumper to a Take off GT Buper isn't hard, took me 4 hours but that was with alot of breaks, dinner, and about a half hour delay because of a wicked hail storm. However cutting your V-6 Bumper is another option which dosen't seem that hard, ( I would have done this if I didn't already have the GT Bumper). Just make a template of the right side using some point as a reference point and turn it over to mark the other side. Then cut away, remember start small and leave about 1/4 inch extra there so that when you file or sand it down it will be perfect. Either way you go good luck...
so if I check around local shops, they could make the pipe for me instead of me ordering it over the net? also, did you get your bumper straight from the factory or did you buy it from a store?
Yep a shop can fab you a pipe, and cut the bumper, if needed you'll just have to get the filler insert, or what ever that things called, and you'll be good. Now yes, the can fab you an x pipe, but personally, I'd go aftermarket, that way you get at least a warranty where if anything Fs up, you're covered. You'll have to look around for an x pipe in your year, but try some of those links at the top of the main entry page, I think v6mustangstuff.com may have one, oh a GT x pipe won't work, just incase you're wondering. Now I say get an x pipe with no cats, that way you get the deepest, best sound quality, but if you have to take an emissions test, or you just want your cats then get the catted system, only thing is they cost more. Oh, I think pypesexhaust.com may have an x pipe for your year too. Now as far as cats go, all you really need to do is change out the mufflers on the GT take offs, don't worry about the hanging mount, the shop you take it to will hav some universal mounts. I reccommend Magnaflow or Borla for the best sound control and quality, well that is if you want to spend the money, if not, then Flow 40s or 50s sound OK.
Thanks for the help guys, I will call around and get some prices and see if I can get a fab'd x-pipe that maybe the shop will give me some kind of warrenty on, and I was actually considering the flowmaster 40's since I like the sound. I've still got loads of thinking to do but now I can start calling and comparing. Thanks again for the quick replies.
There's some info on cutting the fascia yourself here:

It really is pretty simple, the fascia is pretty thin material and it's not a big deal. I've read posts of guys having cut them out with Exactos and box knives too. I set the Ryobi moto-tool on the lowest speed and it was no trouble controlling the cut.
By the way, I did the same as you and had a single GT muffler on for a few hundred miles before installing the duals. At first it sounded really wierd! I think it was because one muffler had seasoned and the other was brand new. After several hundred more miles it sounded a lot better though.

Also if you change your rear bumper to the GT bumper, there is no other parts you will need except about 8-10 1/4 x 1/2 bolts and nuts to replace the rivits you have to remove. Home depot for 2-3 bucks.
I got mine off E-bay....I lucked up and found someone selling front, rear, side skirts and muflers for $250. they came off a black car also so it was a simple bolt on for me.....good luck, OBTW the shop I went to said he would make my H-pipe for $75. you can buy the pipe that goes from it to the mufler for around $90 form Ford. the hangers are $39.00 each and you will need two unless you use one of the right side for the rear of the muflers and use some kind of universal hanger for the front, the only drawback is it will be hard to get it to line up perfect that way....I personally got to have mine perfect....Good Luck
