Carputer or Normal high quality Sound System
I'm going to do one or the other, and am also thinking about doing a step by step guide for our 05/06's if people would be interested in it...if not the I'll still do it but not bother with the guide.
Have researched both, but haven't decided which way I want to go.

Harry...if i just do a stereo system it'll be a great system maybe even do a DVD system, but it will still be rather run of the mill... the puter though will have WAY more to it.
Don't know if could change tunes through it but maybe...I am almost positive though I can tie it in to the onboard computer system so that would be a start

I vote carputer, because I am going to build one myself soon. If you want to give me some advice blazen on what in dash screens would work best, and what setup you are going with. I am considering mounting my laptop on the top of the trunk, running a 12 volt power supply through a power inverter from the battery to the laptop. Then I plan on running either s-video or VGA from the laptop to the in-dash screen. I plan on connecting an xbox to the screen with RCA in. And connecting the screen to a cd player, and the cd player to the speakers. Will I need another amp to power the speakers? Where will the additional cd player hood up to the stock speakers? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
i plan on building 1 soon also....
this might help u guys out

While you could do it with a laptop like that, my plan (if I decide to do it)is to order in my parts and actually build it in the dash and it will all be tucked behind the monitor...there will be several advantages to doing it this way. The biggest one being I don't want to waste a laptop on the project.
The site that Puleo gave is a good site to go to for parts there are a few others as well. I don't have them in front of me right now as they are on my other computer, but I will try and remember to post them later...
If you still have questions after looking there, post em and I'll answer them as I can. This will actually be my first experience with building a carputer, but after 50 or 60 regular computers of varying sizes and uses, and having installed numerous car stereos of different varieties I figure I'm hopefully ready to do a top notch project with my mustang
