Yet another CAI thread
I know we've been posting the he11 out of this topic lately. I haven't found any threads that directly answer my question, so here goes: another damn CAI question!
This afternoon I was this close to buying (holding my fingers closely together now) a K&N drop in. After searching this forum, it sounds like a drop-in won't give anything really noticeable, except maybe save the environment from the harmful masses of disposable filters. I'm thinking, if I'm prepared to dron $38 on a filter, maybe I could drop $199 instead and get an intake kit, which would be noticeable right away. However, I don't want to have to reflash anything. The warranty is not my concern, I just want to leave the computer alone. This is my daily driver, and I'd like to leave the computer be. If you check out this link from www.v6mustangstuff.com, you will see that some intakes require a flash and some don't. I've heard some of you mention that without a flash, these intake kits may give poor results (??).
Can anyone give me their blessing to pick up one of these no-flash kits, such as the K&N aircharger intake, or the S&B? I'm also wondering about what is street legal? I'm in BC, Canada and we have some pretty f*cked up rules here.

If you are thinking of modding you vehicle and you have a list of stuff to do. Do them before the intake upgrade. I was "on the fence" for months and while I couldn't decide on the KN air charger or another kit that requires a flash, I did other upgrades and more reading. I watched people that went with CAI's that didn't require a flash sell their KN air charger to only upgrade to a C&L or Demolet or JLT and tuner combo. Save yourself money in the long run and try to do what you want the first time.
My biggest screw up thus far is (and I only say screw up because I later decided I wanted more) buying the Street Scene grill and then later selling it after I decided to change the front facia. In the end I didn't lose too much, but on an item like the KN you may have hard luck moving it without taking a big loss if you decide to upgrade it later.

No blessing here!
You won't fully utilize the CAI if it isn't "tuned/flashed". Gains will be in the neighborhood of only half of what it could then if it were to be tuned with the CAI. The reflashing is very simple, don't be afraid. I went with the C&l and xcal2 from evolution performance. Not to turn this into a tuner war thread, go with any tuner... just go with a tuner over then just a k&n drop in with no tune.

It's a complete GT front facia. Street Scene sells the grill but when I bought the SS grille I got the fog lights off ebay.

Amystery if you do not mind me asking. Did you change the entire front into a gt-take off front? Does this street scene place sell fog grills for the v6?

Welcome Pat to the thread!! He's now the owner of the Street Scene Grill I was reffering to. BTW Pat, how's the knee? Did they clear you to drive yet?
I got my louvers and scoops painted for $176. $76 for the louvers and $100 for the scoop. I let them install the scoop for $50 as well.

Yes but I appreciate the mix-up. How much did it cost to get your scoop painted by the way (Thread officially Highjacked!!)

Get you a power inverter so you can plug your cryo machine into the cigarette lighter

Yeah, I've actually driven a few times this last week. Gets sore pretty quick, so I can't be far from the ice machine or the ibuprofen.

Darn you thread hijackers!!! This is MY THREAD!!! Ah, just kiddin', help yourselves.
I'm going to sit on the decision for a while, as amystery2u suggested. I don't really know much about this stuff yet. In the mean time...... I just bought a drop in K&N air filter (so I can feeeel that extra 2 HP, oh yeah!
). The addition of the single GT exhaust and K&N filter has definitely made differences in sound and performance (although some of it is probably from an ego-inflated foot).
