Default Top speed?

Not that I want to run out and see for myself, but what is the top speed of a V6? I read somewhere that it is 113 MPH, but that seems kinda low. My old Fiero and Volvo, each sporting a V6, were said to be able to punch through 130. And the Stang has more HP than either of them.

well with a tune you can remove the 113 mph speed limiter, but the drive shaft cant handle over 130 on the V6's

is there really a speed limiter so low? I got up to ~110 on the highway but my foot wasn't even to the floor yet. That kinda sucks, even though I rarely drive at that speed anyway.

Ya it's really weird it does top out at 113 i tested my coupe a couple weeks after i got it...One thing that didn't make sense to me next to a speed limiter so low was that before my 05 coupe i had a 2000 v6 coupe and that topped out at 116, I laughed when i saw that because 05 has a little bigger engine and a little more horsepower then the 2000's did but i don't know why.

Maybe ford just used a crappier driveshaft to save mony. I'm sure with the PH alluminum driveshaft it can handle a lost more and 113mph.

I reset my limiter to 85mph, was going to let the kid drive it, any way went out to test it, ran it WOT up to the limit. It hit the limit and went into a funky jerk type action, surprised me soo much I change it back, and told the kid noway was he driveing my car. The tune I have the speed limiter is set to 120, up from 113, and the rpm's limiter is moved from 5900 up to 6300 rpms. The 2006 mustangs all have the newer driveshaft design, same as the v8's so thats not the issue. More than likely Ford engineers are being directed by the company lawyers to limit upper end to avoid liablity. You all know that if you drive your car at twice the legal speed, loose control, crash and kill yourself and othes that its Fords fault for letting you drive that fast....right. Get a tuner, if you have the newer driveshaft and the higher speed rated tires and are able to pay a big fine for felony speeding, remove the limit and go for it..

Be safe, live long, and laught at all the losers

Is the driveshaft guaranteed to fall apart at over 130? Has anybody tried this yet?

At what point the driveshaft will break consistently...that's kinda one of those things you don't want to test out, you just take the word of people who have broke it that it breaks under high stress/speeds. Driveshaft is kinda important.
