Default Another oil change question

I am watching lx's post and it got me to wondering about high mileage cars. What if you put 2500 miles on your car in a matter of 10 days or so on a road trip. My instinct says change it in another 500 or so miles, but.. if all those miles were highway at cruise speed would the oil still break down the same as in heavy stop and go traffic in town. I hope this isnt a dumb question but RP and k&n filters add up after a while but of course not as much as an engine in the long run

Every 3 months or 3000 miles. The oil builds up an acid init and eats away at gaskets. Thats why you change it so often, not that it gets "dirty".

well look at it this way, your traveling, for how long to put that many miles on it, or you stay in town, and take longer to accumulate that many miles.. to a degree your engine has been running forhte same amount of time, if stop and go is not taken into a factor.. it would says if its all highway, you could probobly put another 1000 on her before the next change

If you look in your manual, it actually says to change the oil every 5000 miles under standard driving conditions, and 3000 miles under "extreme" driving conditions. Of course with a car as fun as the new mustang, isn't all driving "extreme"?
I think the gas pedal has a middle section, but for some reason mine doesn't seem to spend much time there!
