Default Bottled it vs. a Cobalt SS

Having owned my 6 for a few months now I always wondered why I never seem to get any race oppurtunities. I reckon it is mostly due to the style of roads where I am in NJ...not many straight sections in between lights away from your typical black & whites.

Anyways I spotted this black cobalt ss ahead of me, thought it looked nice, so decided to hit the gas to the next light...sure enough as fate had me pull alongside. Acting all cool I sit there considering my options. I had my prodigy banging out "everybody in the place" road ahead is prlly a 10% gradient. Then my stupid sensible side kicks in and tells me that there is a good chance this cobalt could take me...mmm I'm not a good loser. Anyways after a lacklustre pull off the guy pings it (turbo kicked it i assum) and i follow half gas in total disgust with myself.

On paper at least it would seem that the cobalt ss w/200+ hp & torque on a much lighter frame might be a tight one...so I'll wait for my tune & CAI and find him again next time! [sm=burnout.gif]

Yeah I believe they are supercharged, GM isn't too big into turbos except for the trucks of course.

There's two Cobalt SS models, one is a n/a 2.4 with 171 hp and the other is a 2.0 w/ a supercharger that makes an underated 205 hp/ 200 tq. Most supercharged ones dyno at 200 whp stock. The way to tello the difference, besides the supercharged badges lol, the s/c model has an underbody package the reg SS doesn't and it has that huge obnoxious ricey wing while the reg SS has a low wing. The s/c SS is about mid 14 stock with a good driver, the other mid 15 maybe.

I test drove one before i bought my Mustang, they are very very hard to launch correctly and drive to their potential. Being fwd and having a decent amount of tq for fwd, they have bad wheel hop, wheel spin, and torque steer. They do get good gains from mods, since they are f/i...and having a stock supercharger is always nice. But everything else about the car was very unimpressive IMO, Chevy was giving them away when i was there and the ins. was dirt cheap.

I test drove an SRT-4 also, and felt much the same about that car as i did about the Cobalt, but i found it much easier to drive and much quicker. Rediculously quick for it's price...but like i told my buddy though, while it's a fast POS <as is the Cobalt SS s/c>, in the end it's still a POS.

True, i had a guy in a 350z say to me the other week "man, i wish i had got your car, i love the new Mustangs." Funny thing is i had origionally planned on saying how geat his 350z looked <silver vert, black deep dish 19's.> so i just said "wow thanks man, love your car too!" I'm willing to bet no other car owner has every gone out of their way to say how hot an SRT-4 is and they wish they'd bought one, especially someone in a more expensive car! lol @ silly SRT-4's
