Getting Tint

Default Getting Tint

I have decided to get tint on my stang I just need to know do I need to have the factory tint removed or should I leave it on and have them place the new tint over it??? I am going to get 15% all around. Thanks in advance

remove the tint or the tinted windows will be darker then the rest of the newly tinted

You can get it removed.....I didn't have it done, looks good and it's even. It's up to you.

I thought the factory tint was "in the glass" not on it, so I don't think you can remove it. If you want 15% total, have the tint shop check what you have from the factory, and adjust what level tint they put on to give you a total of 15% light transmission. I think the factory tint is mostly for uv, and is about 95%. So if you want 15%, have then put on 20% tint that should be close to a total tint of 15%.

I had 35% tint put on, with the factory tint my total tint is about 30%. In missouri, max allowed on drivers / front passenger is 35%, rear window and sides are unlimited as long as you have side mirrors. I wanted it to look the same, so went with 35%. The front side windows scratched from the hard rubber wipper that ford uses on the mustang, sent off for some moleskin to put on, that solved it, and the tint shop replaced the tint on the doors. No more scratches... there is a thread on that issue here in the forum. Info to get the moleskin or felt as some people call it is ther.
