Default GT exhaust

I just have a quick question for you guys... i am looking to put gt exhaust on shortly and was told that i should get an x pipe to go along with it. The man that told me this said it would make it not sound so ricey. Is this true or can i go without it and save the money?

i have shorty headers, x-pipe and factory gt mufflers...i dont think it sounds ricey at an idle...you get about 2800 rpm or so and it starts cackling pretty bad though. having flowmasters or other style muffler may not make it as raspy but because its a v6 it will never sound exactly like a v8. all in all i like it and wouldnt want anything different, no drone at cruise, it doesnt attract attention from certain people(cops), and it sounds good.

go hpipe on that type of mufflers. Straight thrughs like magnaflow or mrt or whatever then an xpipe would be better

I have a Ford GT X-pipe and GT takeoff mufflers. I love the way it sounds. Before I did the exhaust work, I did the exact same thing that you are doing, I asked questions. Believe me, nobody hates the rice sound as much as I do. If my exhaust would have sounded that way, I would have taken it off, or at least advised others against it. You know, I don't have any kind of drone or cackle. The GT take off mufflers will give a warm growl that sounds tough but won't **** off your girlfriend. The Ford X-pipe is available from Ford performance or on ebay for about $125 plus shipping. Good luck, Dave

I'm sure the X-pipe would sound fine. For me, I opted for the H-pipe. I just had it installed last Friday for $87. I was running the single GT takeoff and it sounded good. With the duals I get a deeper, throatier tone that is marginally louder than the single. 68XR7 opted for the X-pipe and his sounds good, and it maintains an all stainless steel exhaust system. The H-pipe will typically be aluminized pipe. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this question as far as sound. I think it comes down to personal preference. In either case, a balance pipe (whether X or H) is crucial on our V-6's for the "american-muscle-non-rice-sound" that we crave.

igot magnaflows and no x pipe. but i have the magnaflows that dont have the mufflers, the ends are kinda rounded with shinyy tips
has a nice growl to it, theclosest igot to being told it sounded ricey, was when some sort of off kilter dude said it sounded like a ferrari....lol...
all joking aside i have had many v6 owners go nuts over the sound at throttle and idle...i will work on getting some sound clips over the holidays
