hmmmm underrated torque or different tune?
i was just lookin around the ford website looking for other cars using the 4.0 to see if there was a possible cheap head swap option for some extra POWAH! and i saw that the sport trac uses the 4.0 with exactly the same specs, but is rated at 257 ft lbs....? is that from a different tune do you think? The hp is exactly the same 210 at peak...anyone know?
edit: i just noticed it's the same deal with the explorer. someone detuned to keep gt sales up [&:]

RE: hmmmm underrated torque or different tune?
mustang makes peak torque (240) at 3500...the sport trac makes 257 at 3700....do you think they just rated it at a different point or really did limit it a bit?

ehhh....would make sense from a marketing standpoint to keep GT sales up by slightly detuning the 4.0 stang. It's also probably cheaper for them to make. Looks like Ford knows what they're doin lol.

RE: hmmmm underrated torque or different tune?
does anyone know where a stock dyno for an 05+ sport trac can be found? this is bothering me. Either the 4.0 in the stang is detuned stock and that;s why we can gain so much with bolt ons, or we are udnerrated stock...if the ratings were at the same rpm or very different rpm's for peak numbers i wouldn't think about this so much, but 200 rpm difference...?

RE: hmmmm underrated torque or different tune?
it may have to do with something for more torque for the trucks? maybe
all i know is that like in mercedes the (55 amg) engine has differnet horse in each car (maybe just a function of smaller mods on each)

B.amachips alsohas a torque tunewhich gives you more torque down low but you sacafice on the other end of the rpm range vs his other (performancw & race)tunesI tried his the torque tune nice butI perfer his race tune any day becuase of its betterperformance thought out the rpm range.
I would also like to see a real dyno (data)on these trucks so we can see it and look at the whole rpm range compared to a Mutang tune.
