Is it necessary to reset the computer....

Is it necessary to reset the computer....
I just replaced my single exhaust with a single GT takeoff. I saw mentioned on some posts about disconnecting the battery to reset the computer to relearn the new flow, etc. It seemed that it applied to the V8's. Is this true for the V6's also? Should I reset my computer?

I installed my Flowmaster AT on my V6 without disconnecting the battery. Never saw anything about doing that nor did the install sheet from Flowmaster say to do that. Never had any problems, but if you want to disconnect the battery, knock yourself out

I put a MAC on mine and never disconnected the battery, although the instructions said to do so. When I first put it on, it sounded like crap but now sounds awesome. I don't know if that's due to the muffler getting broken in or because it took awhile for the computer to adjust to the new muffler since I didn't unhook the battery. Not sure.

Yes, disconnect the battery. Wait about 15 minutes then reconnect.
Fire it up and drive it.
Changes in flow characteristics coming in or going out of the engine are monitored and adjusted for.
If you didn't reset your MCU when you made the mod's and it ran okay, go ahead and reset it anyway.
You might be pleased of the result.
Again, in any case, when flow characteristics are modified, the MCU must be allowed to compensate.
The best way to do that is a re-boot.

But will it adjust eventually? I installed a gt takeoff about a month ago. Also, I used the "turn key to Acc, press gas slowely, release... turn key to of.. then start" method someone suggested. That is supposed to reset the comp too.

Hey, no worries, your MCU knows exactly what to do after power has been restored.
As for the gas peddle trick, didn't work on my 07 and I believe some other 07 ownershave tried thiswithout any noticeable difference in performance etc.
Anyway, think of it this way. If your battery dies and you have to replace it, you've just cleard and reset the MCU.
There is one code that may pop up but it doesn't cause a check engine light to come on.
That's P01000 < means the battery was disconnected then reconnected causing an MCU reset.
Won't cause you to flunk inspection just so you know so long as you don't try to cheat.

I'm with wolfey, I put GT take off exhaust on my '05. It ran OK and everything, but I disconnected the battery. After re connecting it, the car seemed to run better and get better gas mileage.
