I just drowe a VW and those gears were like a hot knife slicing throught room temperature butter compared to the Mustang, Will a short shifter have the same effect?????

No.

Just makes the travel distance of the shifter shorter...... I've got a Hurst and the stock shifting is actually smoother.... Our trannies, synchros etc.... are just not really top notch.....

So it's not just me? This is only the 2nd manual transmission I've ever driven but it seems especially difficult to shift into 1st and reverse. Is it because the car is new or are all the new Stangs stiff shifts?

Yes they are, it's the car. I've got a Hurst as well and it makes no real difference for ease of shifting. Some have reported the pro 5.0 shifter makes it a little easier to get it in gear.

Just making sure.. the '07 shifter's really short right? Compared to a 2000 Mustang I drove that thing had a crowbar for a shifter. The one in my new Mustang is very short and looks like something from a European car. That's how it's supposed to be right? :-)

I've noticed FWD cars are much easier to shift than RWD cars...
I've driven a few of both varieties.

Transaxles easier than transmission?
