Default Turbo performance

My buddy has a 2006 Volvo s 60. It has the t5 turbo thats an inline 5 cylinder turbo engine. He usually fills up with regular unleaded. Recently I told him that if he filled up with premium unleaded he would get more performance like more horse power. Plus the manual most likely recommends premium to be used. The reason I think this is because I once read in magazine that if you were to install a turbo into your car that you should really start using premium fuel. Well once he filled up with premium he called me and said that I did actually make a difference when he floored it. So asked him to let me drive it. I was excited to see what it could actually do. I was disappointed it felt the same as when I had driven it with regular. Does anyone one know if premium vs regular makes a deferens performance wise on a factory turbo car?

By the way I own a 2006 v6 mustang stick so I would appreciate it no one says anything like why are you posting this here thanks.

Only a fraction of production vehicles are designed to run on premium fuels.
That turbo is probably set up to run on regular hence the lack of performance improvement using premium. Simple as that.
There are a lot of folks thinking what you are and they are wasting their money.
Since your friend seems to do what you tell him, tell him to trade the Volvo in for a 4.0 pony, then add a turbo to that ;-). Problem solved. He'll definately need premium fuel then.

As I understand it, if your not having any problems with detonation, premium won't make any difference.

all volvo turbo cars require 91 octane unleaded fuel, so ya, he should really start.

my gtp has to use Premium when its stock (91+) 93 reccomended. because its supercharged stock. It pings and u get KR without it. And after a tune and more boost it is definatly needed! Just my share of fuels in my cars.-Jon
