Newbie with a question
Hi, I'm new to the site. I have a '06 Mustang V6 Manual convertable. I love my car but I have had some troubles getting into reverse. Sometimes It just wont want to go into reverse and after trying a few times it will finally go in. I went to the dealer and they said that all the 5spd manuals are like that for the V6 and that thats just the way it is. They say that because it is not synchronised that it can be difficult. Does anyone else have this problem with their V6 Manual? Is that just the way these trannys are? Thanks for the help.
we do have synchro style transmissions, but yes thats the way it is on the t5 with remote shifter.
my reverse got worse since the rebuilt transmission, but all the forward gears work beautifully, and are not complaining with 460rwtq yet.

Hi! Welcome to the site! I have an '07 that I sometimes have a bit of trouble getting in reverse. I found that if I try reverse, let off the clutch a little, then fully depress the clutch as I'm pulling back on the shifter, it seems to help.
Peace!

that's something that guys with manual's post often. what i found out for my car, if i slide my gears into first and second, then go into reverse, it goes in smooth. then if that doesnt work, i'll go in neutral and take my foot off the clutch and try again.
yeh, its a pita... Just when I thought it was in once, I let my foot off the clutch but it was only half way in and grind ick...Someone else mentioned something that seems to work for me....put it into third, then back to reverse.
My 86GT, 94GT and 07 V6 have all done the same thing. I remember reading somewhere that the forward gears are synchronised, but reverse isn't. I dont' know if that's true or not, but that's kinda how it acts. With my old cars, the trick was always to slide it into 5th and then straight back to reverse. That worked every time. However, it's not as easy to do that in my 07 - must be how the linkage is set up. Now, letting the clutch out part wayand then pushing all the way in seems to work the best so far.
yeh, there are no syncros for 1st either, thats why when your pulling to a stop sign, its a bitch to get it in while your moving. I think, its a fool proof thing that you cant go from 5th too reverse (that would hurt). I always try to fool it and try going through the gears and from fifth to reverse (while not moving) and it can never work. There seems to be a door that closes if your priorly in 5th gear.
i dont know if it's just my car. butafter much experimentation what stuck and what was the easiest was neutral -> 5th -> reverse. works like a charm.
also a short shifter and saleen shift bushings also help as well.
