Default difference in performance

It seems like when I first start of with cold engine , the first mile it feels as if the performance is a bit better then when the car warms up, it even sounds different , sounds more powerful. I'm sure the computer feeds the engine a little more fuel when it's cold but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this and how normal this is .

The ECU richen the mixture when cold, and thats one reason why some people run a 180* t-stat.
That being said please dont drive it hard before it warmed -up or close to it. Engine stress is greater when coldas opposed tooperating temp.

Thanks , I was actually gonna check to see if there was any engine codes, so thanks guys for the info. As far as running a 180* t-stat that may not be a good idea . If the engine calls for 195 and doesn't get up to normal operating temp. quickly then I don't know if the computer will go into full closed loop quick enough. or at all ??

It's totally normal for a cold engine to be more powerful than when warmed up, since colder air is more dense (therefore more oxygen). Its almost frustrating because I am often tempted to run it hard when it's cold because of the power difference but its really not good for the engine as 94Blk5.0 said.

all the 180 degree t-stat does is adjust the temp the fans come on to help the engine run cooler. it does not hurt it it will actually help power because the engine essentially is warmed up as in cycling but stays cooler and helps prevent overheating cuz it cools it sooner.
