Yeah 15,000 at the most for the fuel filter, especially FI. Messes with the air fuel ratio if not changed

$89.95 for all that!!! My dealer wanted $115.00 JUST to change the gas filter! I will do it myself.

I'm done with the filter. It was pretty simple. Im glad i did it though, because the lower end rpms seem more responsive.

My 06 v6 manual has 7000 miles and some times it feels like it's not as responsive as it should be , Now I'm beginning to wonder if I should change the filter ?

Jim that doesnt seem like a great deal. I see oil changes and tire rotation for $30 bucks or less at every shop. Say $10 give or take for an air filter, $15 give or take for a fuel filter, and we'll give the shop the benefit of the doubt and say $25 for oil and a filter. Now you're looking at $50 in parts. Oil change takes 10 min, air filter 5mins if the mechanic is dumb, and 20 mins for the fuel filter change. So 35min of actual work done by these guys. They charged you $90. I guess thats not too horrible for taking it to a shop, but I would still prefer to do it myself, enjoy the time working on it, and save the $40.
50 parts, plus
.6 labor, at 100 an hour (average for a dealership)
=$110
so, with your parts prices, and labor times, he is saving $20 over normal. so i'd say its a good deal. if you want, i can even look up the actual labor times

Maybe its not such a bad deal in shop terms, but I'd still rather do the job myself. I just absolutely hate taking my stuff to a shop. Everytime i go they got some line of bs that needs replaced. The last t time i was getting new tires on my truck the friendly mechanic came into the waiting room and told me my wheel bearing were bad and if I got on the highway the wheels would fly off in a few miles. He took me into the work area where my truck was on the lift and shook the wheel like the bearings were bad. at that point i picked up his lug wrench and tightened my wheel nuts then asked the guy (who looked pissed and embarrassed) if the bearing still needed replaced. Stuff like that is why I avoid a shop at all cost.

I can do basics like change oil and tires pretty easily, but everything else takes me twice as long as it should. It would take me 1 -2 hours to do it all so that would be $50 to $70 worth of my work time.

Can you do this fuel filter change without ramps/jacks? I am a fairly skinny guy.

Um .... if you can fit your head under the car go for it, but you'll pretty much be kissing metal, and you'll have very limited movement. I wouldn't even think to try it myself. At least just pick up a pair of jack stands for $15 and use the spair tire jack.
