Default 91 Octane

Hi fellow mustang owners,

My owners manual says to use 87 octane,I was told that using a higher octane would not be recommended. Is that true?

Thanks

Why would anyone want to use higher octane and spend more money on stock engine?

Treat the Owners Manual as the word of GOD. Ford payed a lot of engineers a lot of money for the words in that book.

The octane rating and engine knock and timing are all interelated to each other.
Low octane and wrong timing can cause engine knocking. Ford designed
the engine with knock sensors and variable electronictiming. Using too low
of an octaine fuel causes engine knock out of the range of the PCMs timing
adjustment range and knocking will occure. Use the right (87) octaine and the
PCM can adjust the timing enough to eliminate engine knock. Using a higher
octaine fuel does nothing for you with a stock tune and its like throwing a dollar
out the window everyone in a while. So Ford must be GOD with all this going on.

Dont waste your money on 91.Run 87 in your stock Mustang. Get aTUNE and than you can run 91, 92 or 93 and get the full benefits of the higher octane.

You will get better fuel economy using the higher grade fuel. Although when you do the math it pretty much comes out to the same amount on the wallet in the end with a stock tune. The reason that Ford, and others, recommend 87 grade is because of the emissions systems. The extra octane on stock tune will eventually burn out the O2 sensors, but it would take a while. Its all in the tune.

Why would you want to spend money for a tune and pay more money for89+ octane gas when mpgwould be about the same, on a6 cyl?

I agree with everyone else-Higher octane on a stock engine with stock tune does nothing. get a cai/tune and you're can run any octane you want (with the correct tune, of course) and see the benefits

I ran 85.5 octane for half a year when I was at home becuz that was the cheapest and lowest grade fuel. The stang was stock and ran fine with that, no knocking.
