Default headers?

What re the best headers that arent the most expensive, like the bbk or the mac or any others, casue i think ime goin to do headers instead of an underdrive pulley, or should i do the underdrive pulley first?

I have jba short header and I like them, they added a deeper note to my exhaust. I think you may get more hp from the pulley, not sure. I may have got 3-5hp w/headers and w/the pulley you may see 5-8. I'm not sure!

JBA's are the best that aren't the most expensive (Gibson's cost way more)

Quality-wise I've heard a lot of grumbling related to the MACs for the 4.0. Never heard anyone complain of fitment issues or needing to "persuade" the JBAs (my own set fit like a glove, VERY easy install)

Go with the JBA shorties, excellent fit. Make sure to get the ceramic coated ones. Extra money yes, but well worth the investment for looks and longevity. Jack

I did mine myself. No problems at all.

I recommend not using the bolts that come with the headers and keeping the factory studs and nuts to secure the headers. Everyone I've talked to has had fewer issues having to retorque the hardware this way.

Also the factory type steel gaskets are better than the compostion ones supplied with the headers (I went out and got a fresh set of gaskets at the dealership parts dept before I did my install)

+1 on jwilhelm's comment above regarding ceramic. DEFINITELY the way to go if your budget allows. In my case I bought the uncoated stainless JBA's off eBay, because I knew I was going to have fittings welded onto them for EGT sensors, then I sent them out to Jet-Hot to be ceramic coated after the fittings were on. The ceramic looks beautiful, and evem more importantly improves efficiency by helping keep heat INSIDE the headers rather than letting it heat up the engine compartment. In my case, I noticed no rise in underhood temps at all after swapping the factory manifolds for the headers.

Hey Sam, Paul has one beautiful red stang. I've loved to see a pix of what he's done under the hood. Maybe he can put one up some time. But anyway, the stainless version of the JBAs are fine, but after awhile the exhaust heat will turn them weird blue, gold, and other funny colors. Paul's also installed those expensive, I believe the brand name is Corsa ?, mufflers that sound pretty good, but maybe I can convince him to go with the straight through Pypes system I've got on my stang. Sounds real sweet. Sue and I listened to it for 3400 miles up to Maryland and back. No problem. Those big 4 inch Pypes exhaust tips look pretty sweet too. Here's a photo of me about to be done in by a vampire wench at a Halloween party in Mt. Joy PA. Jack

Vampire wench can do me anytime...

The jbas fit great. I attempted to get those studs out but couldn't so I re-used them out of necessity. haha
