Default Muffler Decision

So as you all know by now I am getting the C&L + Tune soon. But cannot decide if I should by a GTA for cheap or wait till this summer after I graduate and get the FRPP Muffler (the borla one.) I love the sound of the borla version, but wanted to know to know if its going to hurt my (it actualy my fiance's) car if I leave the stock muffler on it for like 3-4 months.

I know that the stock one is very restrictive, but just want to know if its dangerously restrctive if I upgrade the intake.

Thanks.

I doubt it most people do cai + tune as there first mod. It shouldn't cause any damage (at least i've never heard of any such thing). If your that worried about it just get a gt takeoff. If u shop around u can find them cheap.

FRPP is made by borla, but be careful cause it might not sound like the borla you heard. (unless it was the frpp) it'll be quality like borla, but it may nothave the same inner constuction as the borla, which would make it have a different sound. also keep in mind that most sound clips are of gt's. not gonna sound like your car with the same muffler.

IMHO if you need to wait to buy the CAI/Tune then finances are tight. Go find a GT takeoff axle back right now. It will give you better sound but more important, free up some power and improve mpg. I've helped slap a few on and they go on with relative ease, about 30-40 minutes; you don't need to jack up the car either unless the car has been lowered.

So a quick mod, for about $50-$60, it sounds better, 5-10 HP gains(varies all over the map) and 1-2 mpg better. Every sixer owner should at least do that without even thinking twice about it.

My friend's daughter loves the sound on hers. it's not too loud but enough noise to get people to look

I assume you've done this already, but be sure you make sure it's okay with your girlfriend that you do these mods on her car. In some cases if something goes wrong and the dealer can attribute a problem to an add-on to your car (like a CAI & tune), they will void your warranty. As far as the stock muffler... it doesn't matter how long you leave it on before getting an aftermarket. I had my stock muffler for over a year and a half before I switched to the MRT AeroTurbine. I'm set on getting dual MRTs in the near future with an X.

In any case, the FRPP & Borla mufflers are great-sounding exhausts. If you want something more subtle for the time being that you might switch out later you can get a GT take-off pretty cheapily. It'll be a slight upgrade to your sound and it's less restrictive than stock. I guess it also depends on what your girlfriend is okay with in terms of volume and aggressiveness... the Borla is pretty aggressive and quite a bit louder than stock or a GT take-off.

Well I am ordering the CAI after monday, the only reasons i'm waiting on the CAI and tune is that I am taking it into the dealership monday because my TCS was broke from factory and they are doing some other waranty work.

This is a retraction of my previous response and explanation is below

Whoops..........I didn't catch the part about it not being his car but his girlfriends. Man, I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole but good luck. I'd wait until I was actually married to her but if you want a stang for yourself, go buy one and mess with that. Nothing wrong with a 2 pony family
