Default underdrive pulley question

does anyone have them on thier 4.0?

what exactly to they do?

do you get more power & improve mileage as the steeda ad says?

who makes the ones you have?

isit worth it?

is it good or bad for a daily driver?

how easy or difficult to install?

while i know a cai and tune are the way to go , until she is paid off i cant justify buying 93 octane gas......

but if an underdrive pulley is a decent realtively cheap power adder im considering it.

thanks ahead to all who reply

I had it for a while. Gave a nice little bump in power. It was not easily installed though, and I dont think it gave me better MPGs. If you dont have a tuner yet, you wanna go with that, the money is much better spent. Going to a higher oct will only cost you a few bucks more per fill up.

I have them on my GT.
They slow down all your accessories to free up power that is usually lost in the parasitic drag of the accessories.
Yes and yes.
Steeda
Yes, as long as you plan on staying N/A. They are useless if you have a supercharger.
Not too difficult, removing the stock pulley was the hardest part.
Even a tune for 87 octane will be much better than the stock tune.

I don't have one on my mustang, but when I put one on my Focus it did nothing and it was money could have been spent elsewhere. (Major major PITA to install!!!)

IMO if you're really that worried about gas prices and want to wait to tune your car till after it's paid off then take the $2xx that you would spend on the pulley and make an extra car payment.

They are easier to install on the Mustang, mostly because the engine is in the correct position.

My buddy who owns a Mach 1 talked me out of buying this mod. He says it's a waste of money if you have something else you'd like to spend it on. A CAI/tune would be a better choice. You don't have to do the 93 gas either.

i thought cai's would make the car run lean if you dont tune the engine properly..... not sure what running lean means but i have an idea and its not good....

Intakes that have the the same size inlet as the stock intake will work fine without a tune. But once you start changing the size of the inlet, it will begin to lean out.

That's true, your car will run lean if you don't tune it properly. That's why you do it right lol. CAI with a tune is always best!
