Default FRPP Kit vs. GT Take-offs?

I order and installed a JBA H-pipe kit and Borla Stingers, and even though it sounds sweet, the JBA pipes don't fit. I took it into a muffler place and they basically told me it would cost more to have them fix the JBA pipes than to just order a proper kit from Ford, so that what I'm gonna have to do unfortunately.

So I was wondering, how is the fit on the FRPP X-pipe kit? Has everyone had their install go reasonably well? I'm looking at either getting that or just going with GT take-off pipes and keeping my Stinger mufflers on there (with either set-up I'll be keeping the Stingers, that is.)

I don't want to order anything that might be overly problematic, because that's what I did with the JBA H-pipe kit and I'm basically going to end up throwing $700 in the garbage.

So yeah, any comments on the fit-and-finish of the FRPP pipes or even GT take-offs?

I put my FRPP kit on in mygarage and it went smooth. The X-pipe fits perfectly and they even provide extra clamps to make it fit extra snug. The kit is top quality and sounds great also, I would highly recommend you going that route.

Good, yeah, I went and ordered that this afternoon.

My local dealer quoted me a ridiculous price (as usual) on the GT pipes, so the V6 kit will actually be cheaper overall.

The entire JBA H-kit, sadly, is gonna be scrap metal. I guess I should have just gone with the FRPP pipes in the first place.

Yeah, I did take it in this morning after having the alignment issues with the home install, and the muffler guy (4 of them, actually) all took a look at it and told me it was going to be very expensive to deal with at this point.

He quoted me $400 (4 hours of work) as starting point, and said it could go up from there depending on things.

So it's possible I could end up with a $600-700 bill to correct my JBA H pipe set-up, and who knows how the work quality would be because they'd be messing with the pipes so much, heating, bending, twisting, hammering on stuff, etc.

So I figure for the long-run peace of mind, my best best (and what I did this morning) was to order the FRPP kit from Ford, so everything is nicely bent to spec (I hope, at least better than the JBAs were) and just have the muffler shop install it right from the start.

It's gonna be more expensive (my total bill, if you can believe it, is going to be around $2500 for a dual exhaust on my V6, because of this wasted JBA kit), but having them mess with the JBA just seems too risky for the cost involved. I don't want to spend $600 repairing it and end up with more problems when it's done.

Man, what a headache. Should have just been smart and gone with the FRPP and the included GTAs or whatever right from the beginning.

So I'm gonna end up with an FRPP X-pipe and Borla Stingers. No exactly what I had in mind, but I'm sure the X sounds as good with them as the H does.

Man... what an ordeal! Have you tried working with JBA or the retailer that you purchased them from? I would think that they could offer some sort of refund--especially since the product is unusable without alteration.

lol, yeah this has been a little bit of a nightmare lately.

When I get the FRPP X put on I'm gonna keep the JBA kit all together and talk to JBA to see if there's anything we can do as far as a partial refund or something. I'm just not sure how damaged the pipes are going to be when the muffler place takes them off, especially since they're rubbing up against stuff under the car right now. And I live in Canada, so unless JBA covers the shipping (unlikely) I'm gonna end up with a nasty shipping bill to send 100 pounds of exhaust equipment back through the mail.

The local supplier I bought them from had to special order them (only place in town who deals in JBA stuff) so I doubt they'll even talk to me about a refund on a special order item. I also bought everything way back in November or something (I wanted to have everything in order and ready to go when the nice weather showed up) so I'll have to see if that's an issue too.

But, if nothing else I'll end up with a brand new set of JBA mufflers and a brand new set of FRPP GTAs I can maybe sell for a few bucks, so I guess it's better than nothing.

Yeesh. I need a beer.
