Default CAUSE FOR CONCERN?

Weird thing happened yesterday on my way home from work. Seems as if the "overdrive Off" button did not work. There were a few times when I pressed it ( I use it sometimes to slow down) and nothing happened. This morning, it was fine. Sound like somehting I should worry about?

RTOM to fully understand the correct operation of the OverDrive button.
It is not intended to be used as you seem to be using it so there will be
non-normal operation from you modus of operandi.

Funny, right in the owner's manual it says that overdrive "can be used for engine breaking". I'm no expert, but isn't that what you call what I use it for?

I use the O/D button for the same thing, in fact I always shift the transmission manually also. You can however, confuse the logic in these cars. Ford hasn't designed the perfect mouse trap yet, the computer in these cars is no exception. You can get it to do some strange things by actually driving the car and shifting it manually. That being said any clitch you experience, will be short in duration and more then likely not repeatable. This auto is pretty tough, I wouldn't worry about it, learn from it.

Its perfectly OK to use the OD button to slow down. That's what it there for! In heavy traffic I turn off the OD off all the time as its much easier to drive with engine braking then hitting the brake pedal all the time. I have noticed that I have to hit it very deliberately not just a swipe. Hope this helps!
