Default GT muffler differences

Since they have different part numbers, what's the difference between GT take-off mufflers coming from an automatic or manual? I've seen on this forum that the manual is preferred. Anyone know WHY?

Some claim the manual sounds better. I have listened to them side by side and there is no difference to the naked ear whatsoever. Weird they would have two parts for the same purpose.

I have the auto on my new 6 and love it...a fantastic upgrade for $50!

That's kinda what I wanted to hear. I checked mine for p/n and it's off an auto. I was worried I was missing out on "the better one". But if you say you couldn't hear a difference, I'll be happy!
But it IS strange there are two different p/n s...........

the manual is a tad more aggressive since it is a bit more free flowing. as said above, its NOT enough to make a clear difference in sound. there are pics of the two muffs floating around with the manual having several more open slots than the auto when viewed through the tailpipe.

Thanks for the pics. That would explain the p/n difference. I guess we'd have to hear from an Ford Exhaust Engneer to get an explanation.

LOL, thanks 157db. you are indeed the holder of the floating pics i was referring to.

the whole thing seems to make sense to me. autos are "GENERALLY" for more conservative driving whereas manuals are "GENERALLY" for more aggressive driving. the muff difference seems to back up this idea.
