hit and run... grrr.
I see alot of people baffled as to how the guy who did this was able to drive away, but when I examined the picture from the way the metal is bent and what has been damaged, it appears that the culprit came at an angle from the RIGHT of the car.
Instead of coming from the left and slamming straight into the side rear of the stang, as it may first seem, it looks like he was heading straight for the rear and swirved to the left in an attempt to avoid it. The trunk, rear window, and the middle of the bumper look untouched while the side of the car has rippled from the impact.
Therefore, instead of a direct impact which most likely would have caused serious damage to his engine and rendered him incapable of driving away, he probably just sort of slid through it, which only would have cause him body damage.
Dang I should be on CSI haha.

Several years ago an identical thing happened to my wife's minvan at work. Someone almost tore the whole side of the van off...around $7500 in damage,
I then found out that hit and runs come out of your COLLISION deductible...and your rates go with it. Not so much as a windshield claim in 15 years and that is how you get repaid. Joy.
The good thing is a good shop will have it looking like new...just try to put this period out of your life and pretend it did not happen.
