Default Auto Transmission Maintenance

Need some info on this.. Is is recommended to change the fluid/filter of the Automatic Transmission? I've heard some people said: changed every 30K and other said: never changed just add fluid to it if needed... mine is at 46K and I've never even looked at the fluid level to see if it even has fluid in there. lol ... Thanks

First of all, you can't easily check it; there's no dipstick!
I'm getting ready to change mine with 40K miles, but I drive the **** out of it and drag race it, too. So I think it needs it.

I do every 30 just to make sure. I'm actually bringing it in next week because shes a hair over 60k now.

I havent looked at mine either. IS this the goofy Ford tranny with the sealed design? Do we need a special "tool" just to pump fluid back in the tranny?

What was so problematic with a dipstick?

tx_zstang is it too difficult to do it our self, is it needed special tools.. i'm looking to do it maybe this weekend or next well if i can.. thanks..

i've been wondering about this as well... anyone know how much fluid needs to go back inside once its changed?

I had my automatic transmission fluid changed at 30,000 miles. I took it to the local Ford dealer and let them do it. Cost me $150.00(everything included)with a coupon and took 2 hrs. Cheap insurance.
