JBA Headers: Painted and Ready
got my SS JBA shorties delivered to me last friday and i noticed right away that they had rust building up. i'm assuming the vendor i bought them from must have had them sitting out exposed in his warehouse/stockroom for some time. either way, i got a good deal for them so i'm satisfied nonetheless. i decided to give them a paint job but wasn't sure if any of the hot paint would really hold up. after doing some research on others who have painted their headers, VHT Flame Proof header paint seemed to get positive reviews since it claims to withstand temps of up to 2000 degrees. after work, i stopped by Kragen auto parts and bought two cans of paint ($10 each). i first degreased the headers and cleaned off any loose particles. i gave them a quick rub with some 500 grit sand paper, cleaned them off again, then went to work with the paint. i first gave them 2 light coats (15 min between each coat) then a 3rd coat that was about medium heavy. the paint dries rather quickly for touch but the directions say to let the paint sit and cure for about 7 days. this works out just fine since i won't have time to install them until sunday. here are pics of before and after header paint. i'll keep you all posted after the install with reviews on the performance, sound and if the paint holds up.

I wish I would have done that with my headers before I intalled them those look good. I might pull mine off and put some new ones on one day and do that in the process, but for mine being on there almost a year they really dont show it
I used some VHT paint on the headers on my truck back a few years ago. It wasn't the same kind you used, it was just VHT black header paint. it held up pretty well, just that it smelled strongly for a little while after they first got hot, not a big deal though.
good to know dude. thanks for the post!
