better flow. The CAI's do alter the air flow and can lean out

Solid point. So the question becomes, does taking in more protein than what your body needs (if you're not stimulating your muscles to grow) cause any internal damage to your liver, kidneys, etc?

In this metaphor, the answer is "no." The human body evolved to be able to handle high intakes of protein.

I think the key here is "potential" damage. IMO, it's best to take steps to avoid "potential" damage now rather than having to pay for it in the future. It sounds like buying a tuner with the CAI is the best option to decrease that potential.

Thank you

Get a combo, like this one from BamaChips.

Is your car a manual or auto?

Only if the OEM MAF sensor does not give readings outside of
what the OEM tune wants to see or you will throw a code.
A CAI thats designed for use with a tune will throw codes
if a custom tune is not used. The SpanishOak cannot make
adjustments that wide. It is set to allow little adjustments only.
If a custom tune was not needed as the stealership would imply,
why do so many here buy CAIs with tuners with custom tunes?
Thats why tuners are being sold for $350-$400 and they sell.
A CAI that does not require a tune is not worth the $200-$300.
No HP improvements over the stock airbox but the sound when
a CAI equipped Stang is coming at you. The inrush of the air
make a quite pleasent noise. They the mufflers hit you as it passes
Music to my ears. Neighbors, no.

Only if you have a new 2010 GT or a 2009 BULLITT. Thay have
adaptive programming to allow for power gains from higher octane
with the factory tune with wider adjustment possable with wider
custom fuel and timing tables.

The stealership is in the busisness of repairing damaged stangs
and one damaged from the use of a CAI requiring a custom tune
thats been installed with no custom tune would not be covered
under warranty. Its busisness to him if you put a CAI on there
without a tune thinking the PCM will compensate and all will be
good with higher octane fuel. Thats a good one.

Damn solid post! Agreed 100%. Very much appreciated.

To achieve maximum benefits + avoidance of damage, a tuner with custom tunes for your CAI is a MUST.

Thank you guys very, very much

I am continually hearing nothing but very positive feedback on bamachips. These are the guys I will be using. Thanks for the link. It has been book marked

I have an automatic. I imagine that makes a difference in the custom tune provided too?

Yes, and from what I hear from auto owners with a Bama tune, a MAJOR difference. He tweaks the shifting so it's much better and more aggressive. People think he's one of the best at tuning for an auto. I use a tune from Bama on my manual GT and love it!
