I could be wrong but it is my assumption that the only differnce between the 500 and the 1000 is the trunk mounted subwoofer that adds an additional 500 watts. I would assume it is prewired in the trunk and would only be a snap in process. (I apologize in advance if I am wrong.) I went with the 500 so I could get my golf clubs in the trunk.

To be straight up honest, I would spend your money on straight up after market stereo equipment. The 1000 just doens't have the punch it should, and I think you'll be disappointed. IF you can get one really cheap, that's one thing.... but otherwise I'd invest in a nice 5 channel Amp and replace your 4 speakers inside, and a nice Sub in the trunk with the Amp. For the record, the Shaker 1000 does have 2 extra "subs" in the door.. and STILL it's not the sound I wanted.

Sigh... Anyone want to buy a Shaker 1000? $1300 bucks Cheap!

I bought my 2005 GT with the stock AM-FM CD..didn't want to pay the 1300 bucks for a factory Shaker 1000. Thats robbery in my oppinion. Anyway..I bought a Shaker 500 off ebay and installed it myself..After I installed it..found out the 6-cd changer didn't work at all. The guy I got it from off e-bay sent me a Shaker 1000 as a replacement so I installed that one and its working fine..other then the occasional skip. If you haven't heard..Ford has had several problems with the Shakers..they haven't recalled them..BUT they will give you a replacement at the dealer IF you request it. The same goes for the gas tank problems.
Anyway..if you want to install it yourself...their are two screws holding the back of the arm rest console...remove those and lift the console up..(you have to pull the parking brake all the way up). Pop the two plastic moldings on the side of the center console..remove the front screws of the AC panel and pull it out to the side..you may have to remove the wiring harness by lifting the gray locked clip. It's really very simple. I replaced the crap factory speakers with pioneers too. Don't have the amp in the trunk but it sounds ok now and I can load 6 MP3 cd's. I wouldn't spend high dollars on the shaker stereos but I wanted to keep it factory with a decent sound. Good luck.

I have a Shaker500 and the manual indicates it should have RDS functionality. Does anyone have this feature with their Shaker500?

I thought there were no differences in the head units only the extra Subs.

Don't want to look like an idiot when I complain at the dealership.

hold down the menu botton for 3 sec the rds should come up. also the shakers are tied to the confuser in the car when you change them you have to download info from the old radio and transfer it to the new. this is done with the WDS unit at ford.

cool! glade to help. you can also do a test by pressing 3 and 6 at the same time when the radio is on it will go into test mode . during test mode press any of the buttons it will give you error codes if any and also display all the items on the screen and the mod shaker you have ending in a or b.

Hey S14,
I'm thinking that I'm missing something soundwise with the factory speakers. I'm no stereo guy but was it easy to take the door panels off and pop new speakers in? The rear speakers must be relatively easy.
