Cool BBK CAI

ok, so i am finally going to buy a CAI....

i read that this BBK CAI does not require a tune, and the filter is re-usable..(which is awesome)

http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-2005-v6-cai.html

but people have been more pleased with the intakes like steeda and others that do require a tune...

is there a big difference between a tuned CAI or the non tuned CAI?

i want to knoiw which one will give me more HP and will save me more money in the long run(MPG) and also has better air flow?

can anyone help me on this?

lots of posts on this subject with extensive and valuable info. generally, you want to go with a "tune-required" CAI. it will require that you purchase a tuner device that will cost more than the CAI itself but package deals are available. any CAI will perform at its highest potential with a custom tune but the potential is higher with the oversized tune-required CAI.

well a tune wil hands down deliver you moer power, really I would reccomend getting a tune with any power adder if you are abe to. Might as well have your vehicle run at it's optimum performance.

On a side note, has anyone tried these CAI on the new 2010 models?

2010 should be no different than 2005-2009. same car with revised body. if this is incorrect, please inform.

From reading the responses on this forum(and others)you seem to have a 50-50 chance of turning on the "check engine" light with the BBK cai and probably most other "no tune required" cais. Any cai will perform much better with a tune then without one. The tune is what makes the power not the cai. I would say upwards of 80% of your added HP comes from the tune. vmptuning.com has the least expensive cai/tuner package available. I think he still sells the package for about $450.00. Plus the tune is not just for HP but better throttle responce, better drive-ability, much firmer & faster automatic shifts both up & down and sometimes better highway gas mileage. It is an entirely different car with a good tune.

Yes, save your money and buy a CAI & tuner package. I made that mistake and ended up spending more money buying tunes later.

I went with Brenspeed. They sell SCT. I haven't used their tune yet. Hopefully I get my car back *this* Friday. Gonna be a sloppy weekend though in the weather so dunno when I will get to test out the tune
