I'll guess and say it means that something malfunctioned with the PATS system. What were you guys working on?

Anyways, it could be a few things. Maybe it just read the key wrong, etc. "From what I understand" you can turn that key to the on position without starting it, leave it there for at least 30sec and it will reset the key.

If thats not the issue he's probably going to have to take it to the dealer so they can check/scan the PATS system to find the issue. It may be nothing at all and just needs to be cleared or it could be something stupid like a fuse.

I'd call the dealership anyways just to get their opinion.

check the fuses and all checked out fine. did the key trick and no luck. but i messed around with the alarm and noticed that if u have the windows down and arm it and the open the passanger door it sets the alarm off it also gets set off if you reach in and push the trunk release button but it does not work when u open the drivers door and i dont know why. does anyone have any suggestions or solutions?

It would probably be helpful to know what you were working on.

From what I've read it sounds like a incorrectly installed alarm system or the connector for the stock Ford alarm system is not plugged in all the way.
Need more info on what he was doing.....

Any diagnosis or help is simply shooting in the dark until you tell us what you were doing to the car.

The only reason I mentioned the alarm module is I installed a Ford factory one myself and it had a few issues on unlocking and opening doors with the interior lock on the passenger side. I mounted the module above the steering wheel as it needs to be on some part of the car that can sense body vibrations / shock from attempted intrusions.

However, it could also be a plug or something near the SJB behind the kickpanel on the passenger side. Like everyone else said, it would be helpful to know what your friend was doing under the dash of the car. What was he trying to install, find, or whatever. I can give general ideas much like everyone else here but without more information we cannot help you.
