Just purchased an 08 Stang. The tire pressure sensor went off on the second day we had it. Checked the tires and they were set at 31 psi, while the tire recommendation is 44 psi. Filled them up to specs and the light went off. Three days later the sensor went off again. Checked the tires and one was down by 3 psi. So here's my question. Are the sensors that sensitive?

Check the Owners Manual and the drivers door jamb placard. The recommended pressure is around 30 PSI and most folks rarely run higher than 34 PSI. The 44 PSI you're referring to is what's on the tire sidewall and is the MAXIMUM manufacturer's pressure and NOT what you should have the tires at. The TPMS sensors are set to about 26 PSI. Have you checked your spare?

 

the spare has the tpms also? didnt know that

 

lol the wife did that with her car. Had it up to 50psi and couldn't understand why I was acting like she was crazy.

 

To be totally honest, I'm not sure about the spare in the Stang. I know the spare on my 4Runner has the TPMS sensor.

 

According to the Ford Workshop Manual for the 07,
there is NO TPMS sensor in the spare tire....

The pressure on the sidewall of the tire is the MAXIMUM
pressure for that particular tire at MAXIMUM load limit
for same said tire.
Less load like the stang means less pressure for it to be
properly inflated for good tire wear and gas mileage...
Read the door sticker like 100% of auto now have for
the proper recommended tire pressures.

Are the tires stock or upgrades?
I believe you have to reset the sensor after upgrading the tires ( I had to) and they can act squirelly* until you do.
I watched the guys at my shop do it with brake down, and cycle the ignition on and off but the actual sequence escapes me.

 

I believe the tires are stock. We purchased the car from a Ford Dealer two weeks ago......

 

And they have the correct TPMS sensors in there??
Go back to the Ford dealer and complain.
