driving in winter
I have no other means of transportation and have no tread left on my tires. I just passed the wear bars on the rear and the fronts are only a few mm more. I live in ohio, so the winters are mild-bad, and I will have to drive every day. No matter what. And I have no money for new tires, AT ALL. I have 12 dollars in my pocket, and unless someone wants to make a generous donation, I might as well be on slicks.

Mustangfirstcar, we're going to change your screen name. How does "Mustangfirstandlastcar" grab you? Maybe "MustangNocar"? If you can afford to drive it, then you can afford to make it safe, not just for you but for that poor, unsuspecting person that you'll be slamming into because of your unsafe tires.
Driving on tires like that in bad weather and then hurting someone should be treated as a criminal act. You'll be a menace to others on the road. Find a way to do it.

I drive mine in the winter as well. 1st winter last year, with a set of Michelin x-ice winter tires. I didnt have any problems. I put about 80lbs in the trunk when it snowed.
My wife is a school teacher so if they call off school I can take the Escape and leave my car in the garage.
As for the unsafe tires, you really should find a way to get new...even good used can be had for fairly cheap on craigslist, don't risk it with unsafe equipment on any car! and be careful.

Im getting snow tires-nothing fancy-but also putting 80lbs of salt in my trunk. It will hopefully do the trick. Its gonna be my first winter in this car so I am a bit nervous. But then again Indiana winters aren't USUALLY so horrible. Nothing like farther north.

So...U bought a car that is pretty huge on insurance(its a sports car) and doesn't exactly sip gas(17mpg) and used all your money for it?? That is VERY poor fiscal responsibility. And thats coming from a 18 yr old teen...My humble suggestion, sell it and buy something cheaper to get thru this hard time you speak of, and save the dream car for another day. I hate to say it...But.. You really are asking for trouble with the setup you have for this winter. If you value your own peace of mind, and safety then find a way to fix this MAJOR issue..At least get used all seasons.
