Question Engine & Tranny Removal

Hi has anyone removed the engine and tranny together as one unit? is it possible. I need to replace my engine and i was thinking of removing the tranny as well to service it. When removing the tranny the 4 flexplate bolts inside need to be removed and are accessed through the starter hole, question- does the tranny need to be in park of neutral in order to do this?

Yes they can both me removed together; done it.
No need for trans in neutral; can be in park as well, but not in gear.

yes the tc nuts are accessible, one at a time.
