Default Shifter Options

Are there any options for upgrading the 5 speed manual shifter on a 2005 V-6 Mustang? I read that these cars have the T-5 Transmission, so I'm wondering if the Hurst shifter made for the T-5 sold at places like v6mustangstuff.com would work in my car.

Thanks,

Joe

The only shifter currently on the market is Steeda's part No. 555-7310 Steeda Sport Shifter Kit - V6 & GT. It requires you to modify your stock shifter housing and replace the shift lever/pivot assembly with their product. I ordered one and when I discovered that it required modifying the stock unit to the point that it could not be returned to stock condition I returned it. It is a very nicely made piece and not overly difficult to install (If you have access to a lift, I would hate to attemp it with car on jack stands only) and they were gracious enough to take it back. Hurst is in the testing stage on theirs and I'm told MGW will be releasing one later this year. Be wary at least one site is listing the current Hurst as fitting both V8 & V6. Trust me it will not work..... had to return that one too! But after speaking with the folks at Hurst, they will be releasing the V6 unit later this year.

I'm not sure if that one will work or not. I'm going to wait until Hurst puts one out specifically for the V-6. I guess I just have to get used to my Mustang after years of having a VW stick shift, the mustang just seems very spongy to me.

I ordered the Hurst shifter from RPM after seeing it listed as fitting the V6 & V8. I even called RPM and was assured it would fit. NOT! When it arrived and I read the instructions and it did not mention the V6, I called Mr. Gasket/Hurstand they informed me that it WOULD NOT FIT. The GT uses a Tremec 3650 and the V6 uses a Tremec T5. This version of the T5 is a remote shifter and the shifters for the earlier T5's will not work either. I spoke with a technician at Hurst that put me on hold and went to the design department to ask the engineers working on the 05 Mustang Project and he verified that the shifter currently available is GT only, the V6 unit is already prototyped and in testing stage now to be released later this year date TBD. I have asked the folks at RPM to change their web page to no avail. I had to contact my credit card company to dispute and stop payment for the shifter I returned. I'm not trying to start a flame against RPM here (do a search on the other mustang sites and you will learn all about them) I just want to spare others the hassle I've been thru. I will wait for the Hurst product that they say will fit the V6. IMHO "If ain't a Hurst, it ain't worth a SHIFT!"
