Default Swapped mufflers

I had the GT take offs on the car the last couple of years and have been happy with the sound, but had a chance to pick up a set of Bullitt (GTB) mufflers with a gift certificate so swapped them over this past weekend. A little deeper tone to them, and bigger tips - I had some 3.5" black chrome tips on my GT take offs (picked those up at MRT) and I like the bigger tips on the Bullitts.

I also had clogged cats so pulled those and put new cats on while doing the work - after 183,000 miles the cats weren't flowing at all! Made the car a little difficult to start.

And the bullitt mufflers, nice big chrome tips

Thanks - and yes that was a concern LOL

but I hit the line locks to pressure up the front brakes, then held the pedal hard when I released the line locks to make sure the brakes had as much pressure as I could get on them!

There is a difference between the GTA and GTB from what I've heard, can't tell you what it is, just that supposedly something is different.

I do know that there is a difference in the size of the GT and GTB. The GT mufflers are quite a bit bigger and heavier than these GTB's.

I'm assuming all those miles of carbon build up and whatever else the cats are meant to filter out.

Correct, that is what happens. They are cleaning the emissions and they eventually cannot flow with the build up.

We used compressed air to blow through the new cats (well, they had 20,000 miles on them) and lots of black soot like material came out. Once there was nothing but air coming out we proceeded to fit things in. Took the cats with 183,000 miles on them and tried to blow through them with compressed air - nothing came out, very little air flow even. So they were essentially corks in the breathing system for the engine. Looking into them I couldn't see anything but black coating on the screen up front and no light at all.

Yes I am, got a little deeper tone overall and at partial throttle it is much stronger sounding. I don't get any drone with this system so didn't have the trade off for better sound - the GT take off didn't drone either, but I get a better sound with the bullitts.

Plus getting the two "corks" out of the way has helped a lot!
