Default 20" Rims

Sorry I'm really new to this forum. I had a question regarding *hypothetically* putting a set of 20" rims on my stock V6. I don't have a set picked out or know which tires I would be using, but I was wondering if I could put them on with a low enough profile without needing to change the ride height or making any changes to the body. I do realize that it would be sacrificing performance, but it would be purely an aesthetics change that I would be going for.

I know relatively little about bodywork but I was wondering if anyone knew of any aesthetic changes I would be able to put a little time into and do them on my own?

Despite my opinion that 20's look like chit on our S197's, yes, you can put 20's on. A 30 or 35 series tire, depending on the width, will have the same OD as the OE tires. Just be sure that you stay close to the OE offset.

I have 20" Cobra R wheels and no modifications are needed in order for the wheel to fit. You will be fine, as long as the wheels you choose are made to fit your year/model car. My tire size is 255/35/R20. I agree with Project85, lowering the car will eliminate the 4x4 look! Once the car is lowered, the ride will be a bit rougher, however cornering is a lot more stable and fun!

Damn, yours are 20's? I always thought the 20's on our cars looked like crap but yours look awesome. And also, did you have your chin spoiler painted?

I have 20's and am lowerd. Definitely think about lowering the car to eliminate the 4x4 look like everyone else said. If you get wheels that are meant for the car you won't need to do any modifications.

I hate 20s, but if you do it right, you should not need to do any other modifications. It won't look very good without lowering, and even with lowering, it won't look very good, IMO. No offense to you 20" guys out there, but it's just not a good muscle car look, IMO.

I think 20" looks really good on S197 Mustangs. I once had an '05 with chrome 20" wheels and I've seen many others with 20s. I plan on getting 20" wheels for my '10 later on in the future. IMO, the great thing about the S197 Mustangs is that you can do a mixture of both classic style mods and modern looks and make it look very nice. I wouldn't put 20s on a real classic muscle car.

HAH HAH, yep!
Appreciate the compliment! When I purchased the car used, it came with the 20" wheels, (not my preference) but they grew on me overtime. I had the Eibach pro-kit lowering springs installed, which makes the wheels look a ton better.

Yes, I painted my chin spoiler (black automotive spray paint) to match my vinyl side rockers. It came out nice and I respray when needed.
