But, upgrading the control arms isn't a bad idea anyway. The stock control arms are set up to soften the ride and reduce noise - so that means that they will flex a lot more than aftermarket control arms.
Don't forget the pinion flange on the 8.8" would need to be swapped for compatibility with the V6 driveshaft

No, you DON'T have to change the control arms. There is nothing to "compensate" for. The 7.5 and the 8.8 mount the same way, all the connection points and the control arms are the same from the factory. Nothing has to be changed.

Yes, you are correct on the pinion flange - that does have to be changed,

But to the OP, that is a minor part. And if you can snag a 2011+ rear end the pinion flange doesn't even have to be changed (at least that was what we found on the last one I sent to someone else).

Everyone has to run their own financial calculations. Longevity may not be an issue for everyone.

I got a good deal on a complete 8.8" axle assembly, and since I'm looking at a 5.4L swap somewhere down the road, I grabbed it.
How much do you think you will want for it? And does anyone know where I can find an 8.8 out of an '11-'12 V6?

Hey Jim,

Sombody said you had trouble with your 7.5" rear, I have another post going on this topic over here...

https://mustangforums.com/forum/gene...ld-300-hp.html

I'd like you to respond to it if you can. Trying to find out if you have a 3.7L and if you did your pushing way more power than I plan to. Is my 7.5 likely to survive? I'm not taking her to the drag strip and won't use mickeys or anything.

Thanks,

Tom

Just posted a reply on your thread - and it wasn't my 2013 where I broke the rear end. It was on the 2006, and it had well under 300 RWHP. If you aren't planning to race the car, and only using it on the street you may be fine - but if you are pushing a lot of RWHP and pushing the car at all, just get the 8.8. You will be money ahead doing that swap rather than trying to build - and then break - the 7.5.

What about the auburn? I also want an 8.8, But haven't had a lot of luck finding one locally, out of a mustang anyway. Plenty of explorer rear ends but no mustangs.

Plus, is there a chance these will hurt my rear axle?
3.73s will make your 5th gear look and feel like 4th gear.
And no damage will occur with proper install.

or install them or Mr. Yahoo install them for you...

My 01 has a 93 tune, CAI, Catback, lowering springs and bigger tires. I have now completely destroyed two 7.5" differcials. Working on and upgrading these is a waste of time, there a a hunk of crap and can't handle any kind of power. I have now wasted time on money buying, removing and installing the 7.5" twice! Pay me now or pay me later, please learn from my mistake and just go for the 8.8 as I am now.
