Ford Racing CAI/SCT 3 Tuner Installation Problem
I just coverted my pony to dual with ford racing x pine and GT mufflers in a shop; it runs smoothly.
Did CAI installation and SCT tune last myself. After installing FRPP CAI, I started the engine without tuning first...first spark did not start the car, car started after second try finally. However, detonation, vibration and large noise came out at the same time, plus heavy gas smell as well...much like a farm field tractor. Check Engine light was also on.
I stopped the engine right away. Then did the 87 octane tune with SCT3 tuner. After loading the tune to the car, I started the car again; then everything seemed to be fine. I took the car for a run, run smoothly, did not feel too much power gained (it was raining, I did not push the car to hard though).
I went back did some research from FRPP website, their procal tuner installation instruction indicates that one should not start the engine after installation of the FRPP CAI without tune the PCM first.
Did I do it wrong? I watched the bama tune installation clip on yoube, in some part of the loading process, the guy said turn the key to accessory positio; but when I actually operated on the tuner, it indicated to turn the key to on position everytime, and that how I did. Hopefully, I did it the correct way.

pardopachiv,
Don't worry, you uploaded the tune correctly! Did you buy Bama Tunes or was this a canned 87octane Tune from SCT? Those canned Tunes don't work out all the time (most of the time actually), so that could be why your Stang was having troubles starting.
Let me know if you have any questions or if you want more info about our Bama Tunes!

I first started the engine without loading up the tune after installing the CAI, and had all those noises. Then I loaded the 87 custom tune from bama, seems fine now. Hopefully, I did not break any engine part. I will bing the car to a performance shop for dyno, find out the difference soon.
Dyno results from my stock setting was 178.8 peak HP @ 5158 rpm to the wheel; 191.8 peak TQ @3956 rpm to the wheel

Your car should be fine! You will get the most performance gain with the highest octane custom tune. Be sure to post your new dyno numbers for a comparison. ;-)
