Default 2005 Speedometer problems

My 2005 Mustang v-6 has been having problems with the speedometer lately.

If I unhook the battery it will work fine for several days than start acting up again.

Basically when I start it up the starting position will vary from 5-25 miles per hour. So if my starting position is 10 I will be doing 25 when my speedometer says 35.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've read here that the stepper motors (behind the gauges) are inferior and prone to causing issues...I suspect that is what is going on with your speedometer...I've also read the repair is inexpensive but may be a task for removing the cluster...I'm sure more will chime in here soon.

Good luck,

Bill

Unfortunately, stepper motors failing is a common issue with the 2005 V6ers.

My RPM, temp and gas gauges don't work properly. My speedometer is the only one that works. (knock on wood)
