mustang steering
sometime this week my dad and i are going to varsityford to testdrive a few mustangs and i will probably get one(a 06 v6 manual, silver with black interier). i'd like to know if the steering has been improved on the 05/06s. my moms stang(02 v6 auto) has light and fast steering, to light and fast for me. i like good steering feedback but that car doesn't have any. should i look forward to steering the new stangs? i know i will be amazed at the roadholding and power though. the first thing i'll buy for it is a tuner to make the throttle work like it should.

Good color choice!!! lol The same as me. Good choice with the manual tranny too. You won't regret that. I feel the car should'nt have been made at all with automatics but Im 23 years of age, who know's how we will all feel when were 35 and have 2 kids. Plus good old suppy & demand will get in the way alot. Hell there is only 1 in 10 05 Mustangs that were orded with a manual. (Think I'd still put up with the clutch though for the more HP & TQ and control of gears) Unless I lived in the middle of Times Square NY or something crazy like that where you'll never make it out of 1st or 2nd gear but untill then I'll tell the car when to shift lol. Plus I heard too much disapointment with the auto's. Takes some money to get it to shift like a manual but everyone know's it deep in the back of there mind that theres nothing like or as good as a Manual Trans.
As for handling, it handles like a dream. Pretty good for what I think but I have never drove an older mustang except for my dad's 85 GT Convert Manual ( not very many manual trannys with convert's that year) and I haft to say even though I've heard it before it drive like the 3rd Gen Mustangs kinda. There a lot shorter and more fatter than the 93,'s or 94's and up or at least they lood it. I never liked Mustangs after the last 3 gen year. The 94's and up or what ever year they started the 4th Gens, they just did'nt do it for me at all. Even the 2000 - 2004 I feel the 4th Gen's are more fit for girls no disrespect to who has owned one but they just don't do it for me. Neather do the 4th Gen Camaro's. Im glad they stopped at 2001 lol. I first saw the 05 in a Motor Trend Mag at my friends and I about **** a brick lol I thought they looked so tuff and neat how they made it look old but it's a new car. I never thought I would ever own one, even just a V6. Never would have thought.
But I would'nt be worrying about the handling much. The car handles beautiful.

the only other stangs ive ever driven was my bros 85 gt and my 86 SVO... needless to say the svo was made for handling, lol and handled like a dream... The 05 though isnt that bad either. lol wish i didnt have 2 sell the svo...

yea the 99-04 are chick cars, v6 anyway. plus the build quality is terrable, the interier looks like sombody on crack put it together plus it looks ugly(at least with twotone) but i've seen a 2000 v6 auto do 13.2s with a turbo kit and nothing else pushing 7 psi-in 5.0 magazine. that would be a great sleeper.
my dads 03 ranger is a 4.0 with 5-speed auto, i can barly feel the shifts even at WOT. if the auto in the stang is like the one in the ranger then dam that sux.
i don't think there are any manual 05s left anywhere. i'll be getting a 06 anyway. the dealer im going to has about 10 manual v6s. actualy there are no satin silvers there so i will choose between my other choices-tungsten grey, windveil blue, redfire, black and vista blue.
i live kind of in the country i guess-there are farms around me. i usually do city-(traffic lights a mile apart at 30mph) driving but that will change once we move to a lake further away.
this will be my first manual car. automatics are soo boring and i've wanted to drive a fun stick since the day i was born so it will be a stick regardless of the options. i will probably keep it stock for a few months because it will be the first real performace car i drive and i'll enjoy it. later on i will add intake, duals, tuner, udp, shifter, clutch, 3.7 gears, detroit tt, springs, sway bars ect and i will eventualy turbo or supercharge it and build up the engine to surpass 400hp-way in the future. all my money will go into this car so i might get there fast. well thats enogh rambling for now

ah man my dad said he would by me a gt used if its under 20,000 at the b-lot. the insurance would be insane even with insurance under his name. but how can i say no, i want the v6? lol im only 18 plus im going from a zx2 escort to the gt, i wouldn't trust me with the car. but as everyone says "with power comes great responsability". im allready responsable. chances are i'll probably get a gt because the lot has cars that ford executives drove.

Couple of things here....
I monitor about 8 mustang forums... I've seen a few posts from guys having problems with their manual trannys... can't say as if I've seen any with the automatic... the V6 automatic is basically the same as the autmatic in the GT, with a few changes... I'm running over 300HP through mine.... The auto tranny is holding up great...
Now Ford absolutely hates clunky shifts... they want them SMOOTH... even at WOT! The car doesn't shift from gear to gear... is slides... LOL! Even my engineer buddies at Ford shake their heads when I questioned them about it... LOL!
The other thing is the tranny is upshift happy... in order to maximize fuel economy the car will upshift very early... under light throttle the car will be in 3rd gear by 16MPH...
Now let's talk torque management... There is a torque limiter in 1st gear... argh! Really is annoying... LOL!
But in your original post you mention that the first thing you'll buy is a tuner... well your in luck! An X-Cal2 will make a night and day difference! Especially in the automatic!! Heck I can chirp my 1-2 and 2-3 shifts!!
And since your in the Detroit Metro Area... Varsity in Ann Arbor or Novi? LOL! I would give Lidio at Alternative Auto a call ! (www.alternativeauto.com) He's a great guy and can get you set up with an X-Cal2...
As far as handling... the V6 is ok... not great... buy not bad... the springs are little too mushy for me... but I've found out that mushy can be your friend at the drag strip... LOL! With better springs and a rear sway bar the car would probably handle really well... although for handling my Porsche Boxster was awesome..... LOL! But I feel in love with the looks my Yellow Stang! Bye-Bye Porsche! LOL!!!
BTW... here's a graph showing how Lidio's WOT shift snaps your head back... you can actually see the MPH jump at the shift where the tires chirp... LOL
