My car had a dead battery after sitting for more than 10 days. Took it to the dealer and they told me that I need to start the car every few days if the car is going to be sitting because of the computers in the car that they stay on and eat up the battery. Has anyone else have problems with dead batteries?

Mine came from Ford with a cracked battery which I didn't catch until I went back to Iraq and my wife tried to do the weekly start up and it wouldn't. Called ford and they came out and got the car and tested/charged the battery overnight and said it was fine. The wife picked it up and put it back inside the garage, the next week same thing again it was dead, called Ford, again they came and got it and tested it. This time they said the battery was bad, they replaced it but didn't clean anything up, yeah all that acid from a craked battery was running down the inside of the fender well and frame and caused alot of rust and paint flaking. when I got home I was running a power wire for another amp and found the damage so I stopped and called them, I droped it off the next day and had them repair and repaint all of the damage....it took 9 days but they did a world class repair job. Didn't cost me a dime and they paid for the rental, thank God the tech that did the work annotated a cracked battery, when I showed the the pictures they flew into action to satisfy my every complaint...

Your dealer lies like a rug. The car does draw a few milliamps when shut down, but a healthy battery will handle that for months (although I'd not let any auto battery sit for over a month without a trickle charge or a few minutes with the engine running). What you don't want to do is drive a modern highly-computerized car with a weak battery that might screw up the sensor readings and indirectly damage the car. I've never had a new Ford battery outlast the car's warranty; when mine die I make Ford tow the car in to offset the "savings" they think they're getting using cheap junk in production.

only problem i had once, is that the starter wouldnt catch the ring gear.. i accidentally stalled it once, and had tried to restart it, and i turned the key 3 seperate times to only get my starter to spin on nothing, i got scared thinkng that i had broken a tooth on teh flywheel, but no damage, the only thing i could have thought on what hapened is that somehow the started motor was able to engage without the pinion moving out.. which is odd, most starters wont turn over till the pinion is as far out as it can be... but it was a one itme thing.. never hapened again
