Default question about cai.

i dont know if anyone has asked this question...

lets say for example i buy a cai that needs to be tuned. If i get it without a tuner, can i bring my car to the dyno place and have them tune it w/o me actually owning hte tuner and so like down the road when i have more money i could get the tuner? anyone know what i mean?

Im thinking maybe it would be cheaper for me to get the cai first then the tuner down the road cuase im sorta strapped w/ cash but would want hte performance now...

You might be able to get someone to do it but I'm not sure you'd really want to. The reason we own the tuner is so that we can save our original programming. It's important because if you don't have the stock program and say you decide you want to uninstall the CAI and/or for warranty reasons you need to bring your program back to stock you won't be able to. I've heard several horror stories about people who bought used cars that had custom tunes and the prior owner did not leave the tuner with the car.

BTW: Tuners like SCT are VIN locked.

If you get the C&L, absolutely do not install it without a tune. Your engine will hardly run (if it does at all). I imagine a lot of the other intakes that require a tune will yield similar results.

Forget the CAI if you do not have the money for both start with the tuner. The CAI alone will only give you bad knocking problems without the tune.

Default RE: question about cai.

my question isnt about running the cai without a tune, i know not to do that since the first time i posted in this forum, lol. What im talking about is getting a cai then taking it to a tuner place for them to tune it to my car .... then down the road buy the tuner... just so i could get the performance like now so to speak and when i have money get the tuner 2 adjust it to whatever else i add.
