Default Wheels/Suspension

I just put a new set of 17X9 Cobra replica rimswith 245/40 tires on my 06 vert.I have a 2.75" gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the front fender and a 3.25" gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the rear fender. I know that I need to lower the car to close up these gaps. What size drop do you recommend?

Hi pat,

I suggest you buy the right size tires, your new 245/40x17 tires are 2.5"shorter than the stock235/55x17 tires and aremuch too short to work well on the S197 chassis and have made the gaps even larger than they were with the stock wheels and tires. You really need a 26.8"-27.2" tall tire for the S197 chassis cars. If your wheels have the correct offset you want to be looking at a 255/50x17 tire for the correct size and fit. Start here and then find a reasonable ride height for your car's intended usage. If you live in snow country you can't really lower the car with springs because you have already effectively lowerd it 1.25" with the shorted tires already and you will have ground clearance problems, ride and handling problems if you go lowenough to fill in your wheel wells with tire.

I hope this helps!

Thanks, I just called the company that I bought the tires from and they agreed that they had suggested the wrong size tire; they suggested the same size that you did. With the right size tires I will not have to lower the vehicle at al which is really what I wanted to begin with; again; thanks a lot for your help.
