Default 18" vs 20"

I will be purchasing new wheels and tires for my 2005 Mustang GT in the next week or so. I cannot however decide on whether to get the 18" or 20" wheels and tires. I had originally thought of going with the 20" because they seem to look so much better on this model of Mustang due to them filling up the wheel wells but then I read on here that they rob horsepower from the car. I just added a CAI to the car along with a SCT Tuner and Tunes from Brenspeed. This made it a brand new car and really woke it up so I don't want to put 20 inch wheels on it that will just take away what I just did to it. For you guys that have put 20's on, is the hp loss that much...or is it not noticable. Most of the wheels that I want come in both the 18 and 20 inch sizes and I have pretty much narrowed it down to either Shelby Razors,or Mega Dishes, in black. My car is LegendLimewith a lot of black accents on it so I think that the black wheels will really set it off. Anyway, if any one canbe of assitanceand let me know the difference in the 18 and 20's and what your opinions are on this matter I would really appreciate it. I have done a lot of research on here and your advice led me to Brenspeed and some other decisions that has really turned out to be great choices. Thanks in advance for you help. Jeff

The 20's really dont fill the wheel well. What you gain in rim, you lose in tire. This depends on the size tire you use really. Most lower the car to fill the gap.

Me personally, 18's are the way to go.

If you want to pimp your ride go with the 20's. If you want a muscle car ride, then go with the 18's.

I know you r pain... I ended up with 19 inch rims happy medium. Like stoenr said the tires for the 20 are picked so there the same height as the originals. One word is with 19 or 20 the tires are reinforced on the sidewall a lot better but they caost a hole lot more money than the 18 inch rims. Id say check tire rack on here and see whats out there.

The black will look good on the LL good luck and enjoy.

If your worried about a little loss in power, get the 18s. It's easy to feel the lost acceleration after the 20s. 20s on the s197 and stock springs doesn't look too big at all. I'd say the 18s look too small. Either way.
